Hello my fellow book lovers! I know I have been absent for quite some time but life has a way of pulling you off track. Needless to say, I am back and I have found a new author that you guys have got to try!
Bradley Wright is his name and action is his game. I was drawn in by the title, of course, Whiskey and Roses just has all kinds of possibilities. Now I was skeptical and wasn’t sure if this would be a series I would like, but I decided to take a chance. Boy, am I glad I did! I couldn’t put this book down. It grabbed me from the first chapter and I am now a Xander King junkie.
The Xander King series is now a series that I am following with great love. Alexander (Xander) King is like a cross between Rambo and James Bond with Kentucky roots. He is an ex-Navy Seal that is out to deliver his brand of vengeance on the people who killed his parents years ago. He is intense, tough as nails, fast as lightning and sexy as hell. His joy in life is his whiskey business, his prized race horses, his friends and family. He would give his life for his friends in an instant and they would do the same for him. They share an unbreakable bond that will carry them around the world to fight some of the nastiest characters the world has ever produced. The fight scenes are chillingly realistic and the story line is a fast past whirlwind that will sweep you away and make your heart pound. The softer side of Xander will tug at your heartstrings and make you love him all the more!
There are 3 books in this series so far, with a prequel as an added bonus. You don’t want to miss a single one! The titles are:

I have read each of these books and this author just gets better with each book! You will fall in love with the characters and you won’t be able to stop turning those pages to see what happens next! These books are action packed and you never know what’s going to happen next. Your emotions will run the gambit with these books; you will laugh, sigh, cry and scream in frustration. There is a hint of romance in this series but it doesn’t dominate the book. It’s more of a ‘will he ever be able to find a love that will survive his life’ kind of thing that will make your heart ache. But in true James Bond-ish style, he muddles through his relationship issues and lives his life to the fullest extent, usually with his best bud, Kyle, at his side and his right hand woman, Sam, watching his back.
This is seriously a great read that you don’t want to miss.

He is torn between his responsibilities to Tack Enterprises and his desire for revenge against Zane, the vampire who tortured him while he was human and later turned him into a vampire. Nightmares are a regular visitor and sleep is getting to be non-existent, which gives him plenty of time for two things: thinking of ways to get his revenge on Zane and to obsess about the new girl in the compound, Isidora. He battles his feelings for her because everything about him is tainted; ruined. Isidora is beautiful, innocent and pure. He is convinced that she can never be with him because of the past that eats away at him constantly.
Isidora was raised in the old traditions of the vampire race and was closed away by her father to protect her and keep her safe from Goron. Now that everyone she had ever loved is gone she lives in the facility with Harrow and the others. She is as isolated in the facility as she was in her home with her father and getting used to the difference in the way of life here keeps her unsure of herself. She is trying to find her place and has found it in mastering handguns under Cyrus’ private tutelage. He is the best teacher and the kindest man she has ever met but she knows that he is struggling. Her mind reading capabilities make it impossible for her to ignore his terrible dreams that haunt him each day. She longs to comfort him but he keeps pushing her away.
With all the drama going on around them, how will they ever find a place in each others lives? Can Isidora heal Cyrus’ heart enough for him to forgive his tormentor and trust the love that she feels for him? Will the disease be wiped out or will the Vampire Council be the one that is erased?

Cheryl took one look at Rohnert, and without a word took her leave. Mort scrambled to his feet and followed suit.
Rohnert kept his hand on her back. “You’re lying.” He peered at her.
Shelly bit her tongue to keep herself from lobbing another furious retort. She looked away, focusing on the exit. He had no right to look so attractive and virile, and her heart shouldn’t be hammering against her chest the way it was. Under his close scrutiny, she felt vulnerable, naked almost, and she hated the sexual stirring in her gut.
“You look tired.”
“I’m fine. It’s my normal. I have to go to work now.”
“You’re done working for the night.” Rohnert’s eyes bore into hers. The command in voice would have sent others seeking for cover.
She was no pushover. “You’re not telling me what to do.” Shelly stood up and bolted past him.
Rohnert was quick to restrain her, and he spun her around to face him. “I’m not doing this to annoy you. You have to look after yourself and our child. Your schedule doesn’t allow you enough rest.”
Sure. He was going all gallant on her, showing concern. It was a bit too cozy and little too late.
“No, it isn’t,” he said, answering her unspoken words. “I left because I wanted to protect—”
“Oh spare me the details. You left because you’re afraid to show you care. Now that I’m pregnant, you come waltzing back into my life to take control. If you’re concerned for the child’s well-being, don’t be. I’m going to let It know who the sperm donor is.”
She watched his face harden. “Do not call our child It. We’re going to give him a name, and I’m not just a donor. I intend to be a part of his life every step of the way.”
So he had been eavesdropping. Just for kicks, she pushed on. “And how do you propose that we go about doing that?” Shelly held Rohnert’s gaze with enough challenge to discourage any man.
His features softened, and his eyes crinkled. “I want a ceremony to bind us. I don’t want my son to be born a bastard.”
As in getting married? Her chest felt weird all of a sudden, inflating at the prospect, but she tamped down her excitement. Where in hell does this man get these silly notions?
“And if I won’t do it?”
Rohnert smiled, exposing the tips of his fangs. “You won’t deny your child the life he deserves.”
Too cocky for his own good. Shelly snorted and shook her head. “This child deserves to live in peace away from the killings and without the fear of getting killed.” It was obvious that she’d struck a nerve when his nostrils flared. Shelly stifled a smile.
“I will protect my child with my life.” He pulled her closer until their faces were almost touching and held her chin with his thumb and forefinger. “You won’t get rid of me, even if you try.” Without giving her a chance to answer, he cupped her face with his big hands and captured her mouth in a hungry kiss, demanding her to respond.
Shelly planted her palms against his chest and pushed. Rohnert didn’t budge. He growled against her lips and deepened the kiss, rendering her breathless and weak in the knees. Her hands relaxed then fisted in his jacket, finally feeling the burn of his mouth.
Oh, God. How could she think straight? She prided herself on being tough, and she usually stuck to her resolve. Yet Rohnert short circuited her brain, making it difficult to think of anything but getting him between her legs.
His hands wound down to the small of her back and pressed her body until there was not a hairline of space between them. She felt lightheaded. This had to stop. She wasn’t going to . . .
Shelly moaned, unable to stop herself from touching his face. If she were truthful with herself, she wanted this and needed him like air.

Review of Ascension by Lorenz Font-Book 3 of The Gates Legacy
Let me start by saying that if you haven’t started reading this series yet you are missing out on a roller coaster ride of action, mystery, love and loss. This series is the best new saga from a new author that I have read in a long time. Lorenz Font builds a whole new world in this series with interesting, well-rounded characters and nail biting action. Each book in this series consistently gets better and will keep you guessing to the very last page. Do yourself a favor and start reading this series today, you won’t be sorry.
Book three of The Gates Legacy, Ascension, continues the story of Rohnert and his fight against the Vampire Council. He blames himself for the deaths of his fellow warriors and the screams of their deaths haunt him daily. He also cannot get the compound’s resident doctor off his mind. The one night they spent together affected him more than he would like to admit and the guilt that he feels for the way he left Shelley without even a goodbye is eating away at him.
Goran, the evil, twisted leader of the Vampire Council is still on the search for the meaning of the prophecy in the black book. Important pieces of that puzzle are missing and he is on a mission to find them no matter who gets in his way. Not even the most elite of bloodlines are safe from his ruthlessness. He issued an edict that gave his guards permission to murder on site anyone who is found carrying a weapon containing Dangeron metal, a substance lethal to vampires. “Jordan, for Christ’s sake, don’t look at me like that. Hell . . . I want you like I’ve never wanted anyone. But this isn’t happening.” Harrow pursed his lips, and she could imagine his internal battle. He touched her face, his thumb fingering the contour of her mouth. “If I have to cut off my hands to keep them from tearing your clothes apart, I will do it. I have nothing to give you but this damned disease. It’s not a gift I want to give to the woman I love.”

Allison held onto his neck as tight as she could, and they both fell on the mattress, Tor landing on top of her. She didn’t let go, even though the weight of his body was heavy on her small frame.
“What the hell are you doing?” Tor shouted as he pushed himself up, but Allison locked her legs around his waist, trapping him.
“Doing what I want to do,” she answered and moved her mouth to his. She felt his breath catch in his throat, and a look of terror crossed his face. This reaction was not what she had hoped for, and his rejection hurt.
Tor moved his mouth away like she was offering him poison instead of herself. “You’re insane.” He held her shoulders with restraining fingers before he pushed her body away, despite her resistance. Her strength was no match against his, and he set her aside like a ragdoll, unwanted and rejected.

The Truth Seekers by Elizabeth Lawrence I was asked to read and review the ARC for The Truth Seekers by Elizabeth Lawrence by a friend of mine. She told me that I wouldn’t be disappointed so I agreed to help out. Little did I know it was a period piece, which I usually do not like or read. When I first started reading this story, I was thinking, ‘Great I’m going to have to force myself to read this to give a review.’ Little did I know that this story would reach out and grab me by the end of the first chapter and not let me go until the very last sentence! My friend calls Elizabeth Lawrence her ‘sensei’ quite often and now I understand why. Ms. Lawrence is the Queen of Angst. If you love angst, you’re going to love this story.
Geoffrey Hawes is a novelist and he hates high society, even though he was born of it. His novels tell of this fact if you’re sharp enough to catch it but most of his readers miss the subtleties of his characters and the pain that they endure at the hands of the elite. He spends his time at social gatherings, when he isn’t writing, doing guest appearances and speeches, often just making pleasantries with the crowd until he can make his escape. He finds that the rules in which high society confine themselves to sicken him. He would much rather spend his time alone, writing his next novel. The men and women at such events held no appeal to him for they didn’t challenge his thoughts or engage him in intelligent conversation and observations. That is until he met the lovely Miranda Claridge.
Miranda Claridge was a breath of fresh air to Geoffrey, she spoke intelligently and challenged his views at every opportunity. She wasn’t like the other girls of high society, politely agreeing with everything a man said and demurely averting their eyes at every glance. Miranda mesmerized him with her tenacity and intellect and he found himself seeking out her company at every opportunity. He told himself that it wasn’t love, he told himself that he could live without her by his side, but both of these things proved to be untrue. He was taken by Miranda but his hate of the rules that she chose to be confined to wouldn’t let him in good conscience ask for her hand in marriage. He didn’t want her given to him like some piece of property, he wanted Miranda to choose him over her life of luxury and rules of society.
Miranda wanted Geoffrey more than she could believe but to turn her back on everything her parents had invested in rearing a woman of society, that would make any man a wonderful wife, was beyond her capabilities. She would not bring shame upon her family by running away with Geoffrey. She wished for him to ask for her hand as propriety called for. Through stubbornness, misguided loyalty and misunderstanding these two take separate paths that send them into a tormented and anguished existence, at best. Unable to forget one another but unwilling to bend to the other’s needs, these tortured souls try to move on with their lives. Until one day fate steps in and brings them together once again. It is a fight to the end but finally these two bend to one another’s will to find a happiness that has enduring consequences. You will be greatly moved by this story Ms. Lawrence has penned so eloquently. It is a beautiful love story that will keep you turning pages and asking ‘why, oh why, are they so pigheaded?’. It will be worth the frustration in the end I assure you. Very well done, Ms. Lawrence! You made me, a die-hard lover of suspense and supernatural novels, actually love a period piece and that’s saying something!
