Tor Burns is a non-infected vampire who has taken refuge in the Tack Enterprises underground facility. Having survived a vicious attack with his fellow vampire Harrow, he now has a new purpose. Vampires afflicted with Gates Syndrome are still being hunted, and Tor is committed to saving them from the clutches of the Vampire Council. With a semi-cure within their grasp, Tor is reluctant to accept his new assignment: bodyguard to Allison Tack, the daughter of their fallen leader. Armed with an abrasive personality and fierce loyalty, Tor approaches this new responsibility with serious determination despite his reservations.
Vampire Allison Tack is the beautiful and timid co-heir of the Tack fortune. Infected and hunted by the Council, those lucky enough to have known her father are determined to keep her safe. A walking target wherever she goes, Allison wants to learn how to protect herself, but no one is listening. Sick of being the helpless one in the company of trained fighters around her, Allison vows to prove that she can fight alongside the best of them.
Meanwhile, the harem leader, Melissa, is hell-bent on unraveling any clue about her son Demetrius’s fate. He disappeared without a word, and time has made her desperate. Stepping up her efforts, she seeks the help of Demetrius’s son, Zane. With the additional manpower, Melissa finds the lair of the suspected vampires and wages war against them.
Thrown together by necessity, Tor and Allison can’t continue to deny their attraction to each other. Tor wants to give in to his feelings for her, but old demons resurface. He must confront the past to prevent losing the best thing that ever happened to him.

Interview with Tor Burns, star of Tormented
My wonderful friend, Lorenz Font, has created this wonderful series of books called The Gates Legacy. In the first novel, Hunted, we were introduced to Harrow and the love of his life, Jordan. We were also introduced to a lot of other characters that were with them at Tack Enterprises fighting against the vampire council to save the infected vampires from certain destruction. This is where I first met Tor Burns. (Be still my little Texas heart!) He is the most awesome character from the series in my humble opinion and he is also the subject of the next installment of The Gates Legacy! His book is called Tormented.
After much begging and pleading on my part, Ms. Font agreed to set up an interview with him so that I could finally meet this intriguing male face to face and interview him for the release of the new book. (Thank you, Lorenz! Squee!!) Here is what happened after that:
A big black SUV rolled up in front of the hotel at precisely 4:45 p.m. where I was standing at the curb waiting as I had been instructed. Cyrus’ long muscular body emerged from the passenger side of the vehicle and in two strides he was standing right in front of me.
“Are you Claudia?” he asked me in his deep voice.
“Yes. It’s an honor to meet you,” I said in answer and held out my hand. I really wanted to make a good impression and was trying not to let my nerves show too badly.
He shook my hand firmly and then turned to open the back door for me without another word. I settled myself in the seat and buckled up, taking a deep breath trying to calm my heart that was pounding away at my chest. The doors shut and I felt the vehicle start to move. There was a blacked out glass partition between me and the front of the vehicle and more blackened windows surrounded me. I sat and stared at my hands in my lap while the SUV rolled smoothly down the street.
My panic levels were reaching epic proportions when the glass partition rolled down slowly. Cyrus held a blindfold out to me and instructed me to put in on in a gruff voice. I took the blindfold and began to protest that they had nothing to fear from me when he glared at me and said, “Put. It. On.”
I put the blindfold over my eyes, ‘well alrighty then’, I thought to myself. As I sat there in total darkness, I desperately hoped that this stupid blindfold didn’t smear my mascara all over my face. Stupid thought to be having at this moment since I didn’t know where I was or where I was going. My mind tends to weird out when I get panicky and there’s no telling what mindless little thoughts will nudge their way through my common sense.
I felt the vehicle stop and I heard my door open a moment later. A strong hand took hold of my arm and I was instructed to exit the vehicle. I was lead into a building that I hoped was the new home of the Tack family instead of a building of my doom. After walking a small distance the blindfold was removed and Cyrus instructed me to wait.
When my eyesight cleared I was standing in the middle of a lovely, yet functional living room of sorts. Fully equipped with couches and chairs, flat screen TV mounted on the wall and a full bar. I stared longingly at the bar thinking how far a nice shot would go in settling my nerves. My insides were a nervous, quivering mess and I stood stark still hoping that my friend had not gotten me into something that I couldn’t handle. I heard a door open and turned toward the sound. A giant figure filled the small hallway leading into the room and it started moving towards me.
It was Tor. ‘OMG!’ He was a massive, rugged male and so mouthwateringly handsome he made my girly bits quiver a little. I had to quickly remind myself that I was a married woman and that Tor was most definitely taken. He closed the distance between us in a flash and was towering over me before I could catch my breath.
“Can I help you ma’am?” he asked as he looked down into my star-struck green eyes.
I smiled my most winning smile and said, “Yes, I’m Claudia and I’m here to do an interview with you, Mr. Burns. Ms. Font sent me over.”
“Is that a fact? No one told me you were coming. We’re pretty picky about who comes around here, little lady, I’m afraid we won’t be able to let you leave here… alive.”
What? Oh crap! I squirmed in my skin nervously, wondering what kind of hell I had stepped into now. I licked my lips and sucked up my pride, ready to beg for my life. “I realize that you don’t want anyone to know about this place. I was blindfolded! Hell, I’m from a Podunk little town in Texas; I couldn’t tell anyone how to find you even if I tried! Ms. Font set this up, surely you trust her! I went through a background check and everything. Please, I won’t tell anyone, I promise! Scouts honor!” I held up my hand with three fingers sticking up in what I hoped was the scout sign, desperate to make him realize I meant them no ill will. I was starting to sweat; scared out of my panties because I knew these guys didn’t mess around when it came to protecting those they loved.
Tor grabbed my hand and pulled my arm up to his nose. I was on my tiptoes trying to keep my feet on the ground as he put his nose to my wrist and drug it down my arm breathing in deeply. I didn’t know whether to pass out from fear or from desire!
“Mmm, you’d make a tasty snack, lil’ bit. I haven’t had a fresh human in quite some time.”
Chills were running rampant up and down my body as I squeaked, “I’m not that fresh.”
A slow grin spread across Tor’s face as he placed his lips against my wrist. “I think I’ll be the judge of that, lil’ bit.”
“Please, Mr. Burns, don’t hurt me. I just wanted to interview you, so all your fans could get to know you a little better.”
Tor’s hard eyes studied mine for a moment, his face serious and unmoved by my pleading. Suddenly he burst out laughing, the booming sound echoing through the room. I didn’t see what was funny but it was nice to know that I was providing him with a good laugh before my horrific death. Maybe he would make my impending death quick since I gave him amusement. He wiped at his eyes and said, “I’m just jerkin’ your chain, lil’ bit. I was expecting you.”
I collapsed, my knees simply refused to support my weight anymore, but thankfully Tor caught me before I hit the floor and gently deposited me on the couch. I closed my eyes, trying and failing to compose myself. I felt the couch dip next to me and my eyes popped open. “You almost gave me a heart attack, you know that right?” I asked him sarcastically.
He chuckled and grinned from ear to ear. “I’m sorry about that, but we live a pretty stressful life and a good laugh does a body good.”
I sat up and stared at him in exasperation. “You’re not even going to apologize? You scared the hell out of me!” I was starting to get pissed now, and I don’t do well with pleasantries when I’m irritated at someone.
He stopped laughing and looked at me. “You’re a little spitfire aren’t you? I like that.” He took my hand in his and bowed as he brushed his lips across my knuckles. He looked up at me and smiled, his fangs on obvious display. “I apologize for scaring you.”
My anger died instantly and I couldn’t help but smile back. I had more than a little crush on Tor from reading about him in Hunted and more recently, Tormented. Looking into his crimson eyes and seeing him at peace just made me melt inside. “That’s okay,” I said. “But please don’t scare me like that again, I’m nervous as a cat already.”
He laughed and after a moment he stood up and walked toward the bar area. “You want a belt to settle your nerves?”
“Uhm, yes, Crown with a splash of Coke if you’ve got it.” I was momentarily stunned at the site of him gliding across the room. His black t-shirt and Levi’s hugged his huge frame and his muscles rippled in his back as he walked over to the bar. He looked over at me when he reached the bar and his slow smile when our eyes met across the room melted my insides once again. ‘Oh. Wow. They didn’t grow them like that in Texas!’ A little quiver ran down my spine and landed right between my legs. Damn! I reminded myself that I needed to be professional and get the interview done. So I tried to chill with the fan-girlin’ and get it together. “Thank you for letting me do this interview with you. You are my favorite character in this series you know?” I said, flashing him a smile.
He closed his eyes and shook his head. “That’s what Lorenz tells me but I don’t see why. Most readers like Harrow or Rohnert, you’re a minority Ms. Trapp.”
“I think you’d be pleasantly surprised at all your fans. You’re a very intriguing man, Mr. Burns.” I pulled my little recorder from my bag and sat it on my lap as I waiting for him to return to the couch. He handed me my glass and sat back down next to me. “Thanks.”
I took a gulp and it made my eyes water a bit. Damn, he literally put just a splash of coke! I took another deep drink hoping it would calm my nerves.
He leaned closer until his face was just inches from mine and said, “And just what is it that you find intriguing about me, lil’ bit?”
I was captured by his intense gaze and the smell of him so close to me. My breathing became slightly irregular and I licked my lips before trying to speak. My voice was just a whisper as I said, “You’ve overcome so much, and now, here you are working with humans and vampires against the Vampire Counsel and this horrible disease. You are such a good man, with a strong will and an unmatched loyalty to those you love and you’re…..”
“I’m what?” he asked staring at me intently.
“Beautiful,” I said with barely a sound coming out of my mouth. I took another gulp of my drink to cover my embarrassment.
He laughed at that and polished off his drink. “Well you and Allison would be about the only two women who think that. I’m a mess, lil’ bit, but I’m getting better.” He stood, still chuckling and headed to the bar for another drink. “Would you like something more to drink?” he asked as he poured himself another.
“No. I think I’m good. If you don’t mind I’m just going to record the interview, it’s much easier than writing,” I said as I pushed the button on the little recorder.
“Whatever you like, Claudia.”
Whoa. He finally said my name! I like the way it rolls off his tongue. And… I’m all fan-girlin, again!
“So, all us ladies want to know….are you and Allison a definite thing?”
The look on his face said it all. His whole body relaxed at the mention of her name and his crimson eyes danced with delight. “Yes, we are a major thing.”
“So you’re happy now?” I asked, stupidly. It was quite obvious that he was.
He sighed. “I’m happier now than I have been in a long time.”
“How about the arm? How are you adjusting to the prosthetic? Will you still be able to fight?”
Annoyance crossed his face momentarily as he took his seat next to me again but he quickly covered it up. “It’s been rough going but yes, I’ve been training and I can still fight. As a matter of fact, I have a few ideas for Rayce and Shelly on some special attachments.”
My mouth fell open and he held his finger over my lips and said, “Shhh! That’s a secret.”
Oh my. It really wasn’t helping me that he was touching my lips. He was so close that I could smell his unique scent and it made me flush with excitement no matter how hard I tried not to. His eyes slowly left mine and looked toward the other side of the room, I waited a moment since I wanted to study his profile a bit longer and then looked in the direction of this stare. There at the entrance to the room stood Allison, staring at us with her hands on her hips. Awkward!
Trying to retrieve a bit of my dignity, I struggled to my feet. “Uhm, hi, I’m Claudia,” I said to her, “I’m here to interview Tor for the book release.”
Allison glided over to me and reached out to shake my hand. “Welcome, I’m Allison Tack.”
“Oh, yes, I know! How are you?”
“I’m doing well. Thank you for asking.” She was so beautiful she took my breath away. She was positively glowing as Tor pulled her into his arms. “Please don’t let me interrupt the interview. I just wanted to check and make sure Tor wasn’t giving you a hard time.”
“Oh no, he’s been quite the gentleman,” I lied.
“I did have a good laugh with her when she first arrived. I just couldn’t resist,” Tor chuckled as he sat back down, pulling Allison down with him to rest on his lap.
She smacked him on the shoulder, and scolded him. “Tor! You shouldn’t scare our visitor! What will she think of us?”
His face was beaming with innocence as he looked at her and shrugged his big shoulders. Well this answers my question for an absolute fact. You could tell these two were completely taken with one another. It made my heart swell to see them both so happy after all that they had been through.
I took my seat next to them and asked, “So have you made any headway against the Vampire Council?”
Their smiles disappeared. Tor cleared his throat, “We’ve taken a few more of the bastards out but Goran has managed to slip through our fingers so far.”
Allison added, “Rohnert has disappeared and we are hoping that he is trying to infiltrate the council. We’re trying to find him so he won’t be alone in his efforts.”
“Maybe he decided to be their stud after all, Allison. We don’t know for sure where he is,” Tor grunted unhappily.
I cleared my throat and said, “I don’t think Rohnert would betray any of you. He would do whatever he had to in order to protect all of you.”
They were silent. Okay, moving on then.
“You lost a lot of people in the last couple of battles. Are there enough of you to even fight now?”
They both positively glowered at me now. So I quickly added, “I know it was horrible. I was so sad, especially about Lambert and all the others. I guess what I’m trying to ask is how you are all coping with that loss and are you training any others?”
“We’re dealing with it as best as we can,” Tor told me sadly. “We have many who are just waiting for a chance to fight but we are making sure they are ready before we send them into the field.”
“Do you plan to fight Allison?” I asked. Wondering what sort of headway she had made with her training and her desire to fight with the others.
They answered my question in unison. So no progress made on that front I see. It didn’t surprise me in the least. They sat there glaring at one another, neither one giving an inch. So I tried to change the subject.
“So what about Gail? Will Harrow and Jordan raise her as their own now that her mother is dead? Will they tell her what you guys really are?”
Allison answered this, “Right now we are just concentrating on keeping her safe. The other decisions will be made later. It’s complicated.”
Speaking of the devil, Harrow and Jordan picked that moment to walk in the room.
“What’s going on here?” Harrow asked walking over to us with Jordan in tow.
“Harrow, this is Claudia. Ms. Font sent her over to do an interview with me. I see you couldn’t stand to not be the center of attention and invited yourself anyway.”
“Well you know how I love the spotlight, Tor,” Harrow shot back teasingly.
Everyone laughed while I sat there in flat out fan-girl heaven, surrounded by my favorite characters of the books. Harrow was drop dead gorgeous, his disease seemed to be in full remission and his blond hair fell in long waves down to his shoulders. His Oakley’s were still in place but you could tell from the smooth color of his skin that he was healthy. Jordan was radiantly beautiful, happiness rolled off her in waves every time she looked at Harrow. These four were obviously doing extremely well despite the horrors they had faced over the last few months.
I finally overcame my thunderstruck moment and got to my feet shaking their hands. “It is so nice to meet you both!”
“It’s nice to meet you too, Claudia,” Harrow answered. “I hate to break up the interview but we need Tor.” He gave Tor a knowing look and he was on his feet in a flash.
I guessed that my interview was over. I turned off my recorder and slipped it back into my bag. I turned to Tor, “Thank you for granting me the interview, Tor. It was a true pleasure meeting all of you,” I said as I looked around at all of them.
Tor gave me a brief hug and a light kiss on the forehead, “You take care, lil’ bit, maybe you’ll get to come back for another interview one day.”
“That would be great,” I said, looking nervously at Allison to see her reaction to Tor’s sudden affection. But she only smiled and stepped forward to give me a hug also. When she had me close she whispered in my ear, “He’s very happy now and he’s getting better every day.”
“I’m so glad…and Allison, I’m so happy that the two of you found each other at last.”
A huge smile spread across her face and she hugged me again. “Me too.”
They were all leaving me now and I was at a loss as to what to do with myself.
Tor stopped as he was about to follow the others out the door and said, “I’ll send Cyrus in to take you home, lil’ bit.”
“Thank you, Tor. Be safe!”
“Always.” he said.
Then I was alone. I sat back down on the couch and stared at the empty room thinking of all the questions that I should have asked but didn’t get around to. Man, I’d make a sorry reporter. I couldn’t quit drooling long enough to ask a descent question. It was just so overwhelming and so heartwarming to see them all in the flesh!
Cyrus came in a moment later with the dreaded blindfold in his hand. I put it on and he led me from the building. I was back at the hotel in no time flat. Cyrus helped me out of the SUV and made sure I was steady on my feet before he released my arm.
“You have a wonderful evening, Ms. Trapp,” he said as he stepped back toward the vehicle.
He stopped as he was about to open the door and turned to me.
“You be careful out there too,” I said.
“Thank you ma’am, that’s the plan.” He smiled at me and then got in the SUV and it sped away.
I was left there in front of my hotel in a slight state of shock. I was still sort of reeling from the quick succession of events that I had just happened to me. I shook my head and laughed. I would never forget it that was for sure. I pulled out my cell as I was entering into the hotel lobby to call my friend Lorenz and tell her of my little adventure.
MY REVIEW OF ‘TORMENTED’ :
If you read my interview above, you probably have already figured out that I have nothing bad to say about this book. Tormented, the second installment of The Gates Legacy is a wild ride from beginning to end! You will fall fast and hard for Tor Burns as he tries to work through the tragedies of his past while facing a future that both intrigues and frightens him. Allison Tack is intoxicating to him but he feels she deserves so much more than a male that is so screwed up.
Allison is hurting after losing her father, Pritchard, and she has decided that Tor is just the soothing balm her hurting soul needs to heal. She tries to deal with her feelings for Tor while fighting the side effects of the treatments for the Gates syndrome that she has. Her life is in turmoil and she is uncertain of her path except that Tor is most definitely a part of it.
This book will leave you reeling. The Vampire Council and Goran will stop at nothing to put an end to the Vampires infected with the Gates syndrome and all who would oppose them. Goran is determined to wipe out everything that Pritchard Tack stood for and worked so hard to put together.
You will meet new characters and revisit some old ones. You will laugh, you will cry and you will hang on by the seat of your pants reading this wonderful book.
Congratulations to Lorenz Font; you’ve knocked another one out of the park!
The Gates Legacy series is a must read for any paranormal fan!
