~~SUMMARY~~

The vampires of New York City are breathing easier after the demise of the tyrannical former head of the Vampire Council, Goran. Under Rohnert, the revered and newly ascended leader, their future looks promising. However, an unknown enemy is manipulating events, killing humans and vampires alike, and exposing their secrets to the human world.

This is bad news for new vampire Cyrus and his band of fighters at Tack Enterprises. Events derail his plans to find Zane, the sadistic vampire who tortured Cyrus and forced immortality on him. Armed with hatred deep in his bones,11214177_699625673498474_7383337547356939759_n all Cyrus cares about is getting even, and Zane has it coming. Cyrus soon finds himself torn between the crippling desire for revenge and his responsibility to his friends. When he begins to spend time in the company of the beautiful and pureblooded vampire, Isidora, her presence in his life makes him rethink his priorities.

Isidora is able to read minds. The thoughts she hears from the respected and irresistible vampire, Cyrus, are filled with both anger towards Zane and a deep admiration for her. Being closeted all her life, Issy has no idea what to do in the face of the outside world’s war, death, and challenges. One thing is clear. She craves Cyrus, but his need for vengeance is clouding his mind. After discovering a previously hidden family member and being called to serve the Council, Issy is at a crossroads in her life and struggles to find the right path.

Both vampires face tough choices. Should Issy pursue her feelings for Cyrus or wait until he can return her affection? Will Cyrus deny his attraction to Isidora so he can kill the man who made his life a living hell on earth? Every decision leads to a reckoning.

~~EXCERPT~~

With Isidora in his arms, Cyrus found comfort from the torture of his nightmares and his past. The warmth of her touch and the sweetness of her kisses made him think of nothing but the present and the desire he had long denied.

11203043_697474750380233_423588790353345754_nCyrus had no idea how to take things between them. He had given her rough sex because he had been a jealous ass. If he’d been thinking clearly, he wouldn’t have done it. Yet he had given in to the intense need to possess her. Maybe, if he took things slow and started from the beginning, he could make do with the little kisses and touching. However, the tenting inside his pants was a cause for concern. It didn’t take long for her to notice.

Issy broke their kiss and smiled up at him. She had that gleam in her eyes, the kind that told him she knew what he was thinking. He rotated his hips, trying to create room between their bodies, but she refused to let him go.

“This is a good time to see if we can work things out.”

“Damn it,” Cyrus muttered. Was he ready? The answer was out of his hands. With the massive wood he was sporting, even a long dip in an icebox wouldn’t chill him out. His body needed Issy, and there was no doubt she wanted him, too.

“Cy, you can take charge of everything. We’ll go at your pace and on your terms. I’m here to enjoy the ride.”

This made him smile. “Even if the ride is bumpy?”

“As long as I’m with you.” She tightened her arms around his waist. “I don’t care how rough, how easy—just take me with you.”

Reckoning, the fourth installment of The Gates Legacy saga picks up the story of Harrow Gates and his unlikely band of brothers and friends as they try to rid the Vampire community of the dreaded disease Incomis Sippanus also known as Gates Syndrome. The disease that Harrow unwittingly spread to the vampire race. He continues his mission to wipe out the disease just as his mentor Pritchard Tack had made it his goal before his death.

Harrow is not alone in this fight. Tack Enterprises is full of his vampire and human friends who are ready and willing to fight right alongside him in his quest. They will never give up and never back down until the disease is eliminated no matter what the cost to themselves. They have finally found the cure; Rohnert’s half human/half vampire child carries the cure in his blood. Now they have to get the cure to everyone who is afflicted but it’s not going to be easy.

Their enemies have their own plans to carry out. Rehvenge and greed fuel their desire to spread the disease and to take the leadership of the Vampire Council away from Rohnert. These enemies are building their own army and have unlimited funds at their disposal to carry out their awful plan. There are also other forces that the Council would have never imagined behind this plot to take them over and the revelation will rock their beliefs.

Cyrus, everyone’s go-to guy, is fighting a battle of his own. He is torn between his responsibilities to Tack Enterprises and his desire for revenge against Zane, the vampire who tortured him while he was human and later turned him into a vampire. Nightmares are a regular visitor and sleep is getting to be non-existent, which gives him plenty of time for two things: thinking of ways to get his revenge on Zane and to obsess about the new girl in the compound, Isidora. He battles his feelings for her because everything about him is tainted; ruined. Isidora is beautiful, innocent and pure. He is convinced that she can never be with him because of the past that eats away at him constantly.

Isidora was raised in the old traditions of the vampire race and was closed away by her father to protect her and keep her safe from Goron. Now that everyone she had ever loved is gone she lives in the facility with Harrow and the others. She is as isolated in the facility as she was in her home with her father and getting used to the difference in the way of life here keeps her unsure of herself. She is trying to find her place and has found it in mastering handguns under Cyrus’ private tutelage. He is the best teacher and the kindest man she has ever met but she knows that he is struggling. Her mind reading capabilities make it impossible for her to ignore his terrible dreams that haunt him each day. She longs to comfort him but he keeps pushing her away.

With all the drama going on around them, how will they ever find a place in each others lives? Can Isidora heal Cyrus’ heart enough for him to forgive his tormentor and trust the love that she feels for him? Will the disease be wiped out or will the Vampire Council be the one that is erased?

You will just have to read this exciting 4th book to find out! You won’t be disappointed. There are twists and turns everywhere and no one is safe! This is not a bed time read, it will keep you awake all into the wee hours of the morning trying to see what happens next!

Grab this book and enjoy!

~~SUMMARY~~

Ascension-3D-Bookstack

Rohnert is descended from a long line of pure-blooded vampires ruled by the Vampire Council. Quiet and principled, he is known for his combat expertise and is beloved by peers and students alike. When his former ally, Goran, becomes the Council leader and the killing starts, Rohnert strikes out on his own.

The vampire race is in upheaval when he discovers a black book that contains the wisdom and history of his people. Rohnert refuses to support Goran’s tyrannical rule and has no interest in ruling himself, no matter what the book foretells. He allies with freedom fighters led by the indomitable Harrow Gates. However, the prophecies fail to prepare him to handle one passionate and determined human doctor.

The last thing Shelly Anderson wanted was to fall in love. After meeting enigmatic and reclusive Rohnert, her resolve quickly crumbles. Their one night together ends in a nightmare. She is determined to carry on without him, but Rohnert’s unexpected reentry into her life derails her plans.

While she teaches him how powerful a human’s love can be, Rohnert realizes the lengths he is willing to go to keep her close and safe, even if it means violating a long-standing decree among pure-blooded vampires to keep their bloodlines intact.

When Goran begins to kill off the remaining Vampire Council Elders, Harrow’s rebels urge Rohnert to step in. It isn’t until harsh reality comes knocking at his door that his choice becomes clear. Rohnert must do whatever he can to save the people he loves or risk losing them forever. However, the reluctant savior may already be too late to protect the lives that matter most.

~~EXCERPT~~

Young caucasian couple in love at twilight lightThe flimsy door was torn off its hinges like a piece of cardboard. “What the hell is going on here?” Rohnert’s voice rattled everything around them, sending the bottles of precious anesthetics to the floor with a loud crash.

“Don’t you ever knock?” Shelly wobbled to the nearest chair and flopped onto it clumsily.

“I heard you cry. What’s wrong?” Rohnert rushed to her side, ignoring her question, and placed his hand on her belly.

It could have been the warmth of his touch or some quack medicinal magic, but her back felt instant relief. Shelly had wanted to deny him the privilege of connecting with their unborn child. Instead, she smothered a moan at the glorious reprieve he brought to her. She was much too proud to acknowledge how his presence soothed her.

“Nothing’s wrong. I probably pulled a muscle when I bent down to pick up the scissors.” She tried to move away from him, to disconnect herself from his touch.

Cheryl took one look at Rohnert, and without a word took her leave. Mort scrambled to his feet and followed suit.

Rohnert kept his hand on her back. “You’re lying.” He peered at her.

Shelly bit her tongue to keep herself from lobbing another furious retort. She looked away, focusing on the exit. He had no right to look so attractive and virile, and her heart shouldn’t be hammering against her chest the way it was. Under his close scrutiny, she felt vulnerable, naked almost, and she hated the sexual stirring in her gut.

“You look tired.”

“I’m fine. It’s my normal. I have to go to work now.”

“You’re done working for the night.” Rohnert’s eyes bore into hers. The command in voice would have sent others seeking for cover.

She was no pushover. “You’re not telling me what to do.” Shelly stood up and bolted past him.

Rohnert was quick to restrain her, and he spun her around to face him. “I’m not doing this to annoy you. You have to look after yourself and our child. Your schedule doesn’t allow you enough rest.”

Sure. He was going all gallant on her, showing concern. It was a bit too cozy and little too late.

“No, it isn’t,” he said, answering her unspoken words. “I left because I wanted to protect—”

“Oh spare me the details. You left because you’re afraid to show you care. Now that I’m pregnant, you come waltzing back into my life to take control. If you’re concerned for the child’s well-being, don’t be. I’m going to let It know who the sperm donor is.”

She watched his face harden. “Do not call our child It. We’re going to give him a name, and I’m not just a donor. I intend to be a part of his life every step of the way.”

So he had been eavesdropping. Just for kicks, she pushed on. “And how do you propose that we go about doing that?” Shelly held Rohnert’s gaze with enough challenge to discourage any man.

His features softened, and his eyes crinkled. “I want a ceremony to bind us. I don’t want my son to be born a bastard.”

As in getting married? Her chest felt weird all of a sudden, inflating at the prospect, but she tamped down her excitement. Where in hell does this man get these silly notions?

“And if I won’t do it?”

Rohnert smiled, exposing the tips of his fangs. “You won’t deny your child the life he deserves.”

Too cocky for his own good. Shelly snorted and shook her head. “This child deserves to live in peace away from the killings and without the fear of getting killed.” It was obvious that she’d struck a nerve when his nostrils flared. Shelly stifled a smile.

“I will protect my child with my life.” He pulled her closer until their faces were almost touching and held her chin with his thumb and forefinger. “You won’t get rid of me, even if you try.” Without giving her a chance to answer, he cupped her face with his big hands and captured her mouth in a hungry kiss, demanding her to respond.

Shelly planted her palms against his chest and pushed. Rohnert didn’t budge. He growled against her lips and deepened the kiss, rendering her breathless and weak in the knees. Her hands relaxed then fisted in his jacket, finally feeling the burn of his mouth.

Oh, God. How could she think straight? She prided herself on being tough, and she usually stuck to her resolve. Yet Rohnert short circuited her brain, making it difficult to think of anything but getting him between her legs.

His hands wound down to the small of her back and pressed her body until there was not a hairline of space between them. She felt lightheaded. This had to stop. She wasn’t going to . . .

Shelly moaned, unable to stop herself from touching his face. If she were truthful with herself, she wanted this and needed him like air.

She also needed a doctor. It was obvious she was sick in the head. She had vowed not to allow him walk all over her, and look at what was she doing—allowing him to trample her will and moaning like a sex-starved kitten while he did.

Review of Ascension by Lorenz Font-Book 3 of The Gates Legacy
Let me start by saying that if you haven’t started reading this series yet you are missing out on a roller coaster ride of action, mystery, love and loss. This series is the best new saga from a new author that I have read in a long time. Lorenz Font builds a whole new world in this series with interesting, well-rounded characters and nail biting action. Each book in this series consistently gets better and will keep you guessing to the very last page. Do yourself a favor and start reading this series today, you won’t be sorry.
Book three of The Gates Legacy, Ascension, continues the story of Rohnert and his fight against the Vampire Council. He blames himself for the deaths of his fellow warriors and the screams of their deaths haunt him daily. He also cannot get the compound’s resident doctor off his mind. The one night they spent together affected him more than he would like to admit and the guilt that he feels for the way he left Shelley without even a goodbye is eating away at him.
Goran, the evil, twisted leader of the Vampire Council is still on the search for the meaning of the prophecy in the black book. Important pieces of that puzzle are missing and he is on a mission to find them no matter who gets in his way. Not even the most elite of bloodlines are safe from his ruthlessness. He issued an edict that gave his guards permission to murder on site anyone who is found carrying a weapon containing Dangeron metal, a substance lethal to vampires. His soldiers carry out this quest while searching for vampires infected with the Gates Virus and this leaves Goran free to search for the answers so long hidden from him.
Harrow Gates has his own personal battles to face. He blames himself for the break-in on their compounds and the deaths of his friends and colleagues. He struggles to live up to the leadership of Pritchard Tack and strives to fulfill his dream of finding a cure for the virus and keeping everyone safe until a cure is found.
And all of that is just in the first few chapters! Do yourself a favor and read this series; it’s amazing.

Summary:

At the turn of the century, the Victorian upper classes live in a vibrant but strictly-ordered world that encourages gentle, intellectual pursuits. Theirs is a life of ease and elegance, but it can be snatched away from them in an instant if the rules of polite society are not followed. Gothic novelist Geoffrey Hawes has never been willing to let such restrictions hold him back, and he refuses to honor conventions for which there is no discernible value. When he spends a social season in a community created to celebrate the Arts, music, and philosophy, he is unexpectedly befriended by the daughter of the Governor, Miranda Claridge.

Bitter and disenchanted with the privileged and wealthy, Geoffrey finds his beliefs repeatedly challenged by the intelligent and vivacious Miranda. In the midst of their heated debates on the mores of the upper class, this unlikely friendship blossoms into a passionate love. He encourages her to pursue her interest in painting and gives her a new understanding of what relationships between men and women should be. Meanwhile, Miranda begins to open his eyes to all that is wonderful and beautiful and good in the world.

Geoffrey at last accepts that he has fallen in love with Miranda, but misunderstandings and lies come between them. Knowing that Miranda believes it is her duty to marry, he prepares himself to hear news of her wedding. Geoffrey attempts to escape the pain of her perceived rejection by traveling and throwing himself into his work. However, he cannot run forever. One day, he encounters Miranda again and soon discovers that she is not the same woman he left behind. Can the couple realize that they each must relinquish some of their prejudices and preconceived notions before it is too late? Can love really conquer all?

Excerpt:

“I have not been humoring you, Miss Claridge. On the contrary, I am intrigued that such a refined and doubtless well-protected woman as you should carry such sorrow. Will you not confide in me?”

Her answering smile was wry. “Am I to provide material for your next book? I assure you, there is nothing I could hope to offer that would interest you or your readership.” The words were bitter, but her tone was not.

“I would tell you that you will not appear in my work, but that is beyond my power. Pieces of every person I encounter have a way of appearing in my books, whether I will it or no.” Moved by some inexplicable impulse, he reached out and took her hand in both of his. “Let me assure you, however, that I am most anxious to know what troubles you so.”

“You are very kind,” she said.

“That surprises you?”

“A bit. You do not strike me as a man who interests himself in the problems of a mere girl, least of all a naïve and inexperienced one such as I.”

“This is perhaps true,” he allowed. “Yet I sense, Miss Claridge, that there is more in your heart and mind than I would expect to discover in a woman of your upbringing.”

“I very much doubt that, sir. In truth, from infancy I have been schooled to have as little on my mind as possible.”

Her eyes returned to their perusal of the lake, but he continued his examination of her face.

After a moment, he responded. “Be that as it may, I think there is quite a good deal in your mind, and in your heart, too. I very much hope that I am nearby if ever you should decide to divulge it.”

The Truth Seekers by Elizabeth Lawrence
I was asked to read and review the ARC for The Truth Seekers by Elizabeth Lawrence by a friend of mine. She told me that I wouldn’t be disappointed so I agreed to help out. Little did I know it was a period piece, which I usually do not like or read. When I first started reading this story, I was thinking, ‘Great I’m going to have to force myself to read this to give a review.’ Little did I know that this story would reach out and grab me by the end of the first chapter and not let me go until the very last sentence! My friend calls Elizabeth Lawrence her ‘sensei’ quite often and now I understand why. Ms. Lawrence is the Queen of Angst. If you love angst, you’re going to love this story.

Geoffrey Hawes is a novelist and he hates high society, even though he was born of it. His novels tell of this fact if you’re sharp enough to catch it but most of his readers miss the subtleties of his characters and the pain that they endure at the hands of the elite. He spends his time at social gatherings, when he isn’t writing, doing guest appearances and speeches, often just making pleasantries with the crowd until he can make his escape. He finds that the rules in which high society confine themselves to sicken him. He would much rather spend his time alone, writing his next novel. The men and women at such events held no appeal to him for they didn’t challenge his thoughts or engage him in intelligent conversation and observations. That is until he met the lovely Miranda Claridge.

Miranda Claridge was a breath of fresh air to Geoffrey, she spoke intelligently and challenged his views at every opportunity. She wasn’t like the other girls of high society, politely agreeing with everything a man said and demurely averting their eyes at every glance. Miranda mesmerized him with her tenacity and intellect and he found himself seeking out her company at every opportunity.
He told himself that it wasn’t love, he told himself that he could live without her by his side, but both of these things proved to be untrue. He was taken by Miranda but his hate of the rules that she chose to be confined to wouldn’t let him in good conscience ask for her hand in marriage. He didn’t want her given to him like some piece of property, he wanted Miranda to choose him over her life of luxury and rules of society.

Miranda wanted Geoffrey more than she could believe but to turn her back on everything her parents had invested in rearing a woman of society, that would make any man a wonderful wife, was beyond her capabilities. She would not bring shame upon her family by running away with Geoffrey. She wished for him to ask for her hand as propriety called for.
Through stubbornness, misguided loyalty and misunderstanding these two take separate paths that send them into a tormented and anguished existence, at best. Unable to forget one another but unwilling to bend to the other’s needs, these tortured souls try to move on with their lives. Until one day fate steps in and brings them together once again. It is a fight to the end but finally these two bend to one another’s will to find a happiness that has enduring consequences.
You will be greatly moved by this story Ms. Lawrence has penned so eloquently. It is a beautiful love story that will keep you turning pages and asking ‘why, oh why, are they so pigheaded?’. It will be worth the frustration in the end I assure you. Very well done, Ms. Lawrence! You made me, a die-hard lover of suspense and supernatural novels, actually love a period piece and that’s saying something!

LORENZ FONT PROMO TOUR!

Have you read any of the books from Lorenz Font?

Let us introduce you to this amazing new author!

Hunted (Gates Legacy #1)

Deep in the heart of New York City’s underworld, a horrible disease is ravaging the vampire community. The Vampire Council is on a crusade to obliterate those infected, and Harrow Gates is target Number One. The unwitting source of the plague, he suffers from the same nightmarish symptoms as his victims. The world he’d been thrust into was cold, cruel, and intent on eradicating him, and the legions of afflicted vampires he created with his bite.

A bounty hanging over his head, satisfying his hunger has become an enormous challenge for Harrow. The less he feeds, the more hideous and painful his lesions become. Constantly running for his life and learning new tricks to survive, Harrow is in no position to refuse when Pritchard Tack offers him a unique opportunity. Pritchard not only gives Harrow a new beginning, but also a purpose and a chance to rectify the chaos he created in the vampire world. However, the multi-billionaire has an agenda of his own.
Jordan is a reluctant new vampire and a woman on a mission. After the demise of her family and her own transformation at the hands of Goran, the ruthless leader of the Vampire Council, her only focus is revenge. Constantly faced with one frustrating dead-end after another, a stroke of luck leads her to an underground facility that she suspects is the lair of the monster for whom she is looking.

Upon learning more about the truth behind the secret bunker, Jordan must fight against her growing feelings of friendship and concern for the facility’s inhabitants. One man in particular threatens to pull her heart away from her sworn mission. There is something behind Harrow’s dark lenses that unsettles the hardened female. Once again, she trembles and hungers for something other than red-stained revenge. Is love strong enough to override her hate-fueled thirst for vengeance?

Tormented (Gates Legacy #2)

Tor Burns is a non-infected vampire who has taken refuge in the Tack Enterprises underground facility. Having survived a vicious attack with his fellow vampire Harrow, he now has a new purpose. Vampires afflicted with Gates Syndrome are still being hunted, and Tor is committed to saving them from the clutches of the Vampire Council. With a semi-cure within their grasp, Tor is reluctant to accept his new assignment: bodyguard to Allison Tack, the daughter of their fallen leader. Armed with an abrasive personality and fierce loyalty, Tor approaches this new responsibility with serious determination despite his reservations.

Vampire Allison Tack is the beautiful and timid co-heir of the Tack fortune. Infected and hunted by the Council, those lucky enough to have known her father are determined to keep her safe. A walking target wherever she goes, Allison wants to learn how to protect herself, but no one is listening. Sick of being the helpless one in the company of trained fighters around her, Allison vows to prove that she can fight alongside the best of them.

Meanwhile, the harem leader, Melissa, is hell-bent on unraveling any clue about her son Demetrius’s fate. He disappeared without a word, and time has made her desperate. Stepping up her efforts, she seeks the help of Demetrius’s son, Zane. With the additional manpower, Melissa finds the lair of the suspected vampires and wages war against them.

Thrown together by necessity, Tor and Allison can’t continue to deny their attraction to each other. Tor wants to give in to his feelings for her, but old demons resurface. He must confront the past to prevent losing the best thing that ever happened to him.

A life must be given for a life taken. Will Tor have to sacrifice himself before Allison pays the price?

Pre-med student Sarah Jones is back in Beaver, Alaska, for summer vacation. A loyal member of the Gwich’in tribe, she accepts the rules set by her father, the leader of their small town. Raised in a strict household, she learned early on to do what is expected of her and has agreed to an arranged marriage. Despite her reluctance to marry without love, Sarah is unwilling to defy her father’s wishes. She hopes to help usher in an era of independence and stability for the town, but for now, her focus is finishing med school so she can become Beaver’s resident doctor.

Business owner Greg Andrews wants to escape his philandering wife and his life in general. Leaving New York City to join a hunting expedition in Alaska, Greg’s plans are turned upside down when he is shot on Gwich’in land and ends up on Sarah’s operating table. In the absence of a qualified doctor, Sarah must operate to save his life. She refuses to wait for the consent of their tribal leader, and her father banishes her from the tribal land in punishment.

Grateful for his life, Greg concocts a scheme to help. Plagued by the side effects of her unconventional operation, he convinces Sarah to become his live-in nurse. Without the means to support herself, Sarah agrees to the questionable arrangement, but she soon finds herself in even more trouble. Her new problem is that she is falling in love with this infuriating man, and the choices she now must make are must more difficult than the simple act of saving a man’s life.

Together, Sarah and Greg must both decide whether they can overcome the vast differences between them, or if the indivisible line that separates their worlds will ultimately pull them apart.

‘Saving Grace’ & ‘Leaving Annalise’

‘Saving Grace’ and ‘Leaving Annalise’ written by Pamela Fagan Hutchins

Cover designer for these books:  Heidi Dorey

I had the great pleasure of meeting the author of these two books, Pamela Fagan Hutchins, at the Texas State Book Festival in Austin, Texas in October of 2013. Ms. Hutchins is not only a great writer but she seems to also be very sweet and personable. When I talked with her at the festival she treated me like an old friend and I was impressed with her enthusiasm and wit. We had a nice conversation about books and digital art while I was at her booth and I couldn’t resist buying these two books and snagging autographs for both. She’s from Texas, like me, and I enjoy supporting our local authors and it was a true pleasure to me her.  I have now added yet another wonderful author to my ever increasing library.

Now on with my review:
I’m not sure how to categorize these books as far as genre—they are romance novels, yes, but they could also fall under the categories of action, mystery, or dare I say even ghost stories. They are a complex mix of all of the afore mentioned and all I can say is hang on for a wild ride.  I’ve read both of these books over the course of the last two weeks and I loved them both. I can’t wait for the next one in the series to hit the shelves. They are full of fun, suspense and thrills throughout and were very satisfying to read. I hear they have been compared to the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich, but being a huge fan of that series, I’d have to disagree. There may be a couple of things that are reminiscent of the Plum series but Katie Connell stands on her own two feet and bears little resemblance to Evanovich’s lovable character.

Book one:  Saving Grace–Katie Connell is a lawyer who has lost both of her parents in a freak car accident on a tropical island about a year ago and is about to find her own life in a wreck itself. Her whole world finishes flipping upside down beginning with a would-be romance with her sometimes work partner/PI, Nick, (that might have just existed in her head), and a court case from hell that she could see was going to be a train wreck from the beginning even through her alcoholic haze.  After being shunned by Nick and the court case tanked (along with her break down going viral on YouTube), she runs from her old life to the tropical paradise that was the place of her parents death and straight into a life that she would have never imagined.
On the tropical island of San Marcos, Katie finds a new friend in a local karaoke singer, Ava. She then is introduced to Rashidi who is the local expert on all things botanical on the island. These two are trying to help her fit in on the island and find out more information about her parents deaths. Pushed by Ava to take a tour of the rainforest with Rashidi as the guide, Katie’s life takes another turn that she didn’t expect. It is on this tour of the rainforest that Katie falls hard for an abandoned mansion on the top of a huge hill in the forest. The locals called it a jumbie house. ( Haunted to all of us land lovers.) The strange thing is that the ghost, Annalise, which haunts and protects that old mansion, wants Katie to live in it. Annalise speaks to Katie, and beckons to her to save the old house and restore it to its original beauty.
Katie successfully purchases the mansion and starts renovating Annalise and meets all sorts of local characters in the process. Restoring a house on the remote island of San Marcos is a bit more complicated that it had first seemed. Finding reliable, honest help was proving difficult too. As if that wasn’t enough stress for Katie to deal with, her new friend Ava has been accused of murder. Things get even more twisted and exciting after that, and all the while Katie is trying to move on with her life and even find a new love to distract her from all of her problems.
Saving Grace will have you turning the pages at lightning speed to see what will happen next in the tropical paradise that has a twisted side that people rarely see.
Book two:  Leaving Annalise, takes your breath away with the first few pages as the love that Katie thought was lost forever suddenly shows up and rocks her world. Nick Kovacs makes his appearance and nothing is the same after that. Leaving Annalise is a whirlwind of events that will leave your heart pounding and have you wondering what else could possibly happen to these two lovers who seem to be destined to be together. Annalise herself will fight for these two fated loves and will stop at nothing to protect them. But others have their own agenda when it comes to the lives of these star-crossed lovers. They face the death of more family members, to custody battles, to threats of murder, to freaked out ex-lovers and fortune hunters. Leaving Annalise is non-stop action from the first page to the last. You will be swept away in the romance of Nick and Katie, fascinated by the ghost of Annalise and scratching your head trying to figure out who is causing all the trouble that seems to envelope all of these characters.
This series is a must read. Do you hear the words coming out of my mouth? A must read! They are awesome and have me eagerly awaiting the next book release to the series.

You can find these books and others written by Pamela Fagan Hutchins at
SkipJackPublishing
They are on sale right now for .99 and 2.99!  You can’t beat that price for great entertainment.  Don’t wait to grab these two books to keep you warm and cozy on the upcoming cold winter nights.

Interview with Tor Burns, star of Tormented

My wonderful friend, Lorenz Font, has created this wonderful series of books called The Gates Legacy. In the first novel, Hunted, we were introduced to Harrow and the love of his life, Jordan. We were also introduced to a lot of other characters that were with them at Tack Enterprises fighting against the vampire council to save the infected vampires from certain destruction. This is where I first met Tor Burns. (Be still my little Texas heart!) He is the most awesome character from the series in my humble opinion and he is also the subject of the next installment of The Gates Legacy! His book is called Tormented.
After much begging and pleading on my part, Ms. Font agreed to set up an interview with him so that I could finally meet this intriguing male face to face and interview him for the release of the new book. (Thank you, Lorenz! Squee!!) Here is what happened after that:
A big black SUV rolled up in front of the hotel at precisely 4:45 p.m. where I was standing at the curb waiting as I had been instructed. Cyrus’ long muscular body emerged from the passenger side of the vehicle and in two strides he was standing right in front of me.

“Are you Claudia?” he asked me in his deep voice.

“Yes. It’s an honor to meet you,” I said in answer and held out my hand. I really wanted to make a good impression and was trying not to let my nerves show too badly.

He shook my hand firmly and then turned to open the back door for me without another word. I settled myself in the seat and buckled up, taking a deep breath trying to calm my heart that was pounding away at my chest. The doors shut and I felt the vehicle start to move. There was a blacked out glass partition between me and the front of the vehicle and more blackened windows surrounded me. I sat and stared at my hands in my lap while the SUV rolled smoothly down the street.

My panic levels were reaching epic proportions when the glass partition rolled down slowly. Cyrus held a blindfold out to me and instructed me to put in on in a gruff voice. I took the blindfold and began to protest that they had nothing to fear from me when he glared at me and said, “Put. It. On.”

I put the blindfold over my eyes, ‘well alrighty then’, I thought to myself. As I sat there in total darkness, I desperately hoped that this stupid blindfold didn’t smear my mascara all over my face. Stupid thought to be having at this moment since I didn’t know where I was or where I was going. My mind tends to weird out when I get panicky and there’s no telling what mindless little thoughts will nudge their way through my common sense.

I felt the vehicle stop and I heard my door open a moment later. A strong hand took hold of my arm and I was instructed to exit the vehicle. I was lead into a building that I hoped was the new home of the Tack family instead of a building of my doom. After walking a small distance the blindfold was removed and Cyrus instructed me to wait.

When my eyesight cleared I was standing in the middle of a lovely, yet functional living room of sorts. Fully equipped with couches and chairs, flat screen TV mounted on the wall and a full bar. I stared longingly at the bar thinking how far a nice shot would go in settling my nerves. My insides were a nervous, quivering mess and I stood stark still hoping that my friend had not gotten me into something that I couldn’t handle. I heard a door open and turned toward the sound. A giant figure filled the small hallway leading into the room and it started moving towards me.

It was Tor. ‘OMG!’ He was a massive, rugged male and so mouthwateringly handsome he made my girly bits quiver a little. I had to quickly remind myself that I was a married woman and that Tor was most definitely taken. He closed the distance between us in a flash and was towering over me before I could catch my breath.

“Can I help you ma’am?” he asked as he looked down into my star-struck green eyes.

I smiled my most winning smile and said, “Yes, I’m Claudia and I’m here to do an interview with you, Mr. Burns. Ms. Font sent me over.”

“Is that a fact? No one told me you were coming. We’re pretty picky about who comes around here, little lady, I’m afraid we won’t be able to let you leave here… alive.”

What? Oh crap! I squirmed in my skin nervously, wondering what kind of hell I had stepped into now. I licked my lips and sucked up my pride, ready to beg for my life. “I realize that you don’t want anyone to know about this place. I was blindfolded! Hell, I’m from a Podunk little town in Texas; I couldn’t tell anyone how to find you even if I tried! Ms. Font set this up, surely you trust her! I went through a background check and everything. Please, I won’t tell anyone, I promise! Scouts honor!” I held up my hand with three fingers sticking up in what I hoped was the scout sign, desperate to make him realize I meant them no ill will. I was starting to sweat; scared out of my panties because I knew these guys didn’t mess around when it came to protecting those they loved.

Tor grabbed my hand and pulled my arm up to his nose. I was on my tiptoes trying to keep my feet on the ground as he put his nose to my wrist and drug it down my arm breathing in deeply. I didn’t know whether to pass out from fear or from desire!

“Mmm, you’d make a tasty snack, lil’ bit. I haven’t had a fresh human in quite some time.”

Chills were running rampant up and down my body as I squeaked, “I’m not that fresh.”

A slow grin spread across Tor’s face as he placed his lips against my wrist. “I think I’ll be the judge of that, lil’ bit.”

“Please, Mr. Burns, don’t hurt me. I just wanted to interview you, so all your fans could get to know you a little better.”

Tor’s hard eyes studied mine for a moment, his face serious and unmoved by my pleading. Suddenly he burst out laughing, the booming sound echoing through the room. I didn’t see what was funny but it was nice to know that I was providing him with a good laugh before my horrific death. Maybe he would make my impending death quick since I gave him amusement. He wiped at his eyes and said, “I’m just jerkin’ your chain, lil’ bit. I was expecting you.”

I collapsed, my knees simply refused to support my weight anymore, but thankfully Tor caught me before I hit the floor and gently deposited me on the couch. I closed my eyes, trying and failing to compose myself. I felt the couch dip next to me and my eyes popped open. “You almost gave me a heart attack, you know that right?” I asked him sarcastically.

He chuckled and grinned from ear to ear. “I’m sorry about that, but we live a pretty stressful life and a good laugh does a body good.”

I sat up and stared at him in exasperation. “You’re not even going to apologize? You scared the hell out of me!” I was starting to get pissed now, and I don’t do well with pleasantries when I’m irritated at someone.

He stopped laughing and looked at me. “You’re a little spitfire aren’t you? I like that.” He took my hand in his and bowed as he brushed his lips across my knuckles. He looked up at me and smiled, his fangs on obvious display. “I apologize for scaring you.”

My anger died instantly and I couldn’t help but smile back. I had more than a little crush on Tor from reading about him in Hunted and more recently, Tormented. Looking into his crimson eyes and seeing him at peace just made me melt inside. “That’s okay,” I said. “But please don’t scare me like that again, I’m nervous as a cat already.”

He laughed and after a moment he stood up and walked toward the bar area. “You want a belt to settle your nerves?”

“Uhm, yes, Crown with a splash of Coke if you’ve got it.” I was momentarily stunned at the site of him gliding across the room. His black t-shirt and Levi’s hugged his huge frame and his muscles rippled in his back as he walked over to the bar. He looked over at me when he reached the bar and his slow smile when our eyes met across the room melted my insides once again. ‘Oh. Wow. They didn’t grow them like that in Texas!’ A little quiver ran down my spine and landed right between my legs. Damn! I reminded myself that I needed to be professional and get the interview done. So I tried to chill with the fan-girlin’ and get it together. “Thank you for letting me do this interview with you. You are my favorite character in this series you know?” I said, flashing him a smile.

He closed his eyes and shook his head. “That’s what Lorenz tells me but I don’t see why. Most readers like Harrow or Rohnert, you’re a minority Ms. Trapp.”

“I think you’d be pleasantly surprised at all your fans. You’re a very intriguing man, Mr. Burns.” I pulled my little recorder from my bag and sat it on my lap as I waiting for him to return to the couch. He handed me my glass and sat back down next to me. “Thanks.”

I took a gulp and it made my eyes water a bit. Damn, he literally put just a splash of coke! I took another deep drink hoping it would calm my nerves.

He leaned closer until his face was just inches from mine and said, “And just what is it that you find intriguing about me, lil’ bit?”

I was captured by his intense gaze and the smell of him so close to me. My breathing became slightly irregular and I licked my lips before trying to speak. My voice was just a whisper as I said, “You’ve overcome so much, and now, here you are working with humans and vampires against the Vampire Counsel and this horrible disease. You are such a good man, with a strong will and an unmatched loyalty to those you love and you’re…..”

“I’m what?” he asked staring at me intently.

“Beautiful,” I said with barely a sound coming out of my mouth. I took another gulp of my drink to cover my embarrassment.

He laughed at that and polished off his drink. “Well you and Allison would be about the only two women who think that. I’m a mess, lil’ bit, but I’m getting better.” He stood, still chuckling and headed to the bar for another drink. “Would you like something more to drink?” he asked as he poured himself another.

“No. I think I’m good. If you don’t mind I’m just going to record the interview, it’s much easier than writing,” I said as I pushed the button on the little recorder.

“Whatever you like, Claudia.”

Whoa. He finally said my name! I like the way it rolls off his tongue. And… I’m all fan-girlin, again!

“So, all us ladies want to know….are you and Allison a definite thing?”

The look on his face said it all. His whole body relaxed at the mention of her name and his crimson eyes danced with delight. “Yes, we are a major thing.”

“So you’re happy now?” I asked, stupidly. It was quite obvious that he was.

He sighed. “I’m happier now than I have been in a long time.”

“How about the arm? How are you adjusting to the prosthetic? Will you still be able to fight?”

Annoyance crossed his face momentarily as he took his seat next to me again but he quickly covered it up. “It’s been rough going but yes, I’ve been training and I can still fight. As a matter of fact, I have a few ideas for Rayce and Shelly on some special attachments.”

My mouth fell open and he held his finger over my lips and said, “Shhh! That’s a secret.”

Oh my. It really wasn’t helping me that he was touching my lips. He was so close that I could smell his unique scent and it made me flush with excitement no matter how hard I tried not to. His eyes slowly left mine and looked toward the other side of the room, I waited a moment since I wanted to study his profile a bit longer and then looked in the direction of this stare. There at the entrance to the room stood Allison, staring at us with her hands on her hips. Awkward!

Trying to retrieve a bit of my dignity, I struggled to my feet. “Uhm, hi, I’m Claudia,” I said to her, “I’m here to interview Tor for the book release.”

Allison glided over to me and reached out to shake my hand. “Welcome, I’m Allison Tack.”

“Oh, yes, I know! How are you?”

“I’m doing well. Thank you for asking.” She was so beautiful she took my breath away. She was positively glowing as Tor pulled her into his arms. “Please don’t let me interrupt the interview. I just wanted to check and make sure Tor wasn’t giving you a hard time.”

“Oh no, he’s been quite the gentleman,” I lied.

“I did have a good laugh with her when she first arrived. I just couldn’t resist,” Tor chuckled as he sat back down, pulling Allison down with him to rest on his lap.

She smacked him on the shoulder, and scolded him. “Tor! You shouldn’t scare our visitor! What will she think of us?”

His face was beaming with innocence as he looked at her and shrugged his big shoulders. Well this answers my question for an absolute fact. You could tell these two were completely taken with one another. It made my heart swell to see them both so happy after all that they had been through.

I took my seat next to them and asked, “So have you made any headway against the Vampire Council?”

Their smiles disappeared. Tor cleared his throat, “We’ve taken a few more of the bastards out but Goran has managed to slip through our fingers so far.”

Allison added, “Rohnert has disappeared and we are hoping that he is trying to infiltrate the council. We’re trying to find him so he won’t be alone in his efforts.”

“Maybe he decided to be their stud after all, Allison. We don’t know for sure where he is,” Tor grunted unhappily.

I cleared my throat and said, “I don’t think Rohnert would betray any of you. He would do whatever he had to in order to protect all of you.”

They were silent. Okay, moving on then.

“You lost a lot of people in the last couple of battles. Are there enough of you to even fight now?”

They both positively glowered at me now. So I quickly added, “I know it was horrible. I was so sad, especially about Lambert and all the others. I guess what I’m trying to ask is how you are all coping with that loss and are you training any others?”

“We’re dealing with it as best as we can,” Tor told me sadly. “We have many who are just waiting for a chance to fight but we are making sure they are ready before we send them into the field.”

“Do you plan to fight Allison?” I asked. Wondering what sort of headway she had made with her training and her desire to fight with the others.

“Yes.”

“Hell, no!”

They answered my question in unison. So no progress made on that front I see. It didn’t surprise me in the least. They sat there glaring at one another, neither one giving an inch. So I tried to change the subject.

“So what about Gail? Will Harrow and Jordan raise her as their own now that her mother is dead? Will they tell her what you guys really are?”

Allison answered this, “Right now we are just concentrating on keeping her safe. The other decisions will be made later. It’s complicated.”

Speaking of the devil, Harrow and Jordan picked that moment to walk in the room.

“What’s going on here?” Harrow asked walking over to us with Jordan in tow.

“Harrow, this is Claudia. Ms. Font sent her over to do an interview with me. I see you couldn’t stand to not be the center of attention and invited yourself anyway.”

“Well you know how I love the spotlight, Tor,” Harrow shot back teasingly.

Everyone laughed while I sat there in flat out fan-girl heaven, surrounded by my favorite characters of the books. Harrow was drop dead gorgeous, his disease seemed to be in full remission and his blond hair fell in long waves down to his shoulders. His Oakley’s were still in place but you could tell from the smooth color of his skin that he was healthy. Jordan was radiantly beautiful, happiness rolled off her in waves every time she looked at Harrow. These four were obviously doing extremely well despite the horrors they had faced over the last few months.

I finally overcame my thunderstruck moment and got to my feet shaking their hands. “It is so nice to meet you both!”

“It’s nice to meet you too, Claudia,” Harrow answered. “I hate to break up the interview but we need Tor.” He gave Tor a knowing look and he was on his feet in a flash.

I guessed that my interview was over. I turned off my recorder and slipped it back into my bag. I turned to Tor, “Thank you for granting me the interview, Tor. It was a true pleasure meeting all of you,” I said as I looked around at all of them.

Tor gave me a brief hug and a light kiss on the forehead, “You take care, lil’ bit, maybe you’ll get to come back for another interview one day.”

“That would be great,” I said, looking nervously at Allison to see her reaction to Tor’s sudden affection. But she only smiled and stepped forward to give me a hug also. When she had me close she whispered in my ear, “He’s very happy now and he’s getting better every day.”

“I’m so glad…and Allison, I’m so happy that the two of you found each other at last.”

A huge smile spread across her face and she hugged me again. “Me too.”

They were all leaving me now and I was at a loss as to what to do with myself.
Tor stopped as he was about to follow the others out the door and said, “I’ll send Cyrus in to take you home, lil’ bit.”

“Thank you, Tor. Be safe!”

“Always.” he said.

Then I was alone. I sat back down on the couch and stared at the empty room thinking of all the questions that I should have asked but didn’t get around to. Man, I’d make a sorry reporter. I couldn’t quit drooling long enough to ask a descent question. It was just so overwhelming and so heartwarming to see them all in the flesh!

Cyrus came in a moment later with the dreaded blindfold in his hand. I put it on and he led me from the building. I was back at the hotel in no time flat. Cyrus helped me out of the SUV and made sure I was steady on my feet before he released my arm.

“You have a wonderful evening, Ms. Trapp,” he said as he stepped back toward the vehicle.

“Cyress?”

He stopped as he was about to open the door and turned to me.

“You be careful out there too,” I said.

“Thank you ma’am, that’s the plan.” He smiled at me and then got in the SUV and it sped away.

I was left there in front of my hotel in a slight state of shock.  I was still sort of reeling from the quick succession of events that I had just happened to me. I shook my head and laughed. I would never forget it that was for sure.  I pulled out my cell as I was entering into the hotel lobby to call my friend Lorenz and tell her of my little adventure.

OfficialPGDBlogReviewMY REVIEW OF ‘TORMENTED’ :
If you read my interview above, you probably have already figured out that I have nothing bad to say about this book.  Tormented, the second installment of The Gates Legacy is a wild ride from beginning to end! You will fall fast and hard for Tor Burns as he tries to work through the tragedies of his past while facing a future that both intrigues and frightens him. Allison Tack is intoxicating to him but he feels she deserves so much more than a male that is so screwed up.
Allison is hurting after losing her father, Pritchard, and she has decided that Tor is just the soothing balm her hurting soul needs to heal. She tries to deal with her feelings for Tor while fighting the side effects of the treatments for the Gates syndrome that she has. Her life is in turmoil and she is uncertain of her path except that Tor is most definitely a part of it.
This book will leave you reeling. The Vampire Council and Goran will stop at nothing to put an end to the Vampires infected with the Gates syndrome and all who would oppose them. Goran is determined to wipe out everything that Pritchard Tack stood for and worked so hard to put together.
You will meet new characters and revisit some old ones. You will laugh, you will cry and you will hang on by the seat of your pants reading this wonderful book.
Congratulations to Lorenz Font; you’ve knocked another one out of the park!
The Gates Legacy series is a must read for any paranormal fan!
